This session with Abbi marks the official welcome to my Maryland boudoir studio!
Initially, Abbi reached out because she was on the hunt for a spicy anniversary gift for her husband. According to tradition, the first anniversary gift is supposed to be paper but she had been struggling to find something cool for her man until she joined The Coven group and saw me flipping through an album.
When it comes to boudoir, I always joke that while the products might be for your partner – the experience is definitely for you!
“I am not the boudoir type. I’m not conservative necessarily, but I’m also not one to show more skin than necessary. I don’t wear short skirts, or tight dresses, only go so low cut – not because I don’t want to show anything but because I’m not comfortable. I’ve always stuck to the same style of clothes and bathing suits, very rarely straying, and usually not having the confidence to wear something outside of that box even if I dared to buy it. I decided to do a boudoir session with Kyra on a whim. Her portfolio of gals was so gorgeous, I was getting married, I had this sexy idea in my head so I figured why the hell not, I had plenty of excuses to make it make sense in my head. ”
“I profusely apologize to photographers about my awkwardness and Kyra was hardly phased by me. I anticipated every second of the experience being awkward and that showing in the pictures. Kyra prepares for this and shoots that shit right out the window. She addressed my areas of concern and made sure I wore what I was comfortable in, but also encouraged me to get a little outside of my comfortable place. I felt so glam with the hair and makeup, and having Kyra do the poses with me took the awkward out of what really could be an incredibly awkward experience.”
“The photos were, of course, beyond stellar. My husband opened up my album in between our ceremony and reception, flipped through a page or two, snapped it shut with an “oh my, we’ll save that for later!” It cracks me up to be able to randomly send him one of the photos – usually when I’m ready to leave a social outing!”
“While I love the photos, the experience renewed the confidence I used to have in my body. Since then, I’ve found myself buying night gowns, even lingerie, just for funsies. I’m buying more age appropriate bathing suits (goodbye grandma pool suits, and hello Hawaii honeymoon). I’m not saying the session turned me right around and now I’m 100% body confident, but it did make me feel like it was okay to be me, I don’t have to be dark and witchy to be sexy (but I can be), and explore the outside of my comfort zone style wise, which was not what I expected from a boudoir sesh. ”
“Kyra made all that possible just by being Kyra and sharing her incredible talents. If you’re on the fence because you’re not a boudoir person, that’s just not your kind of sexy, you’re too conservative to have half naked pics of yourself out and about, girl it’s about a lot more than the take home photos. Let it happen, embrace the spooky awkward, do the damn thing, with Kyra. ”
Abbi is an incredible human, and it was an honor to have her in my Maryland boudoir studio!
