2020 served up plenty of plot twists, but I never would have predicted that becoming a Virginia Maternity Photographer would make my list!
Savannah and Chris originally hired me to photograph their Tolkein-inspired wedding at Maymont in 2019 but plans changed quickly as a pandemic rolled in. Soon after Virginia shut down, these two discovered that Savannah was pregnant and due within weeks of their rescheduled 2021 wedding date!
Through wedding planning (and rescheduling!) these past two years, Savannah and Chris have truly come to feel like friends and it was my honor to capture this major milestone within their family. There’s no greater compliment than a client loving their photography experience so much that they return again and again!
This was one of my first times working at Jones Point Park, and I was SO impressed with the variety this location offers! Whether you’re looking for the privacy of a secret beach, love the way the sun peaks through the branches of a forest, or want something with cool, urban architecture- Jones Point Park has it all!
I love the way that Savannah and Chris incorporated some of their signature style as a couple into the details of their session! (Do these matching braids give anyone else throwback vibes to the show Vikings?) I always hear people joking that “it takes a village to raise a child!” and Savannah’s own mom came through in spades to give these two their matching braid design!
Before we began the session, Chris was telling me that his greatest fear was that I would make him act out cliche Pinterest prompts like kneeling to kiss Savannah’s belly in the middle of a crowded sidewalk.
While that pose might be perfect for some, I tailor all of my prompts and poses to each couple’s dynamic so that you never feel forced or uncomfortable in front of the camera. The chemistry these two have is undeniable! It would have been a shame to lock them into something static and serious when they were cracking jokes together the whole time.
After a session filled with laughter over shared nerd jokes, we stopped for one final snap under the Alexandria overpass on our way back to our cars. “It’s going to be weird!” Chris insisted, but after seeing the back of the camera earlier in the day he was game to try out my vision. I’ll let you be the judge!
As a Virginia maternity and family photographer, time is absolutely flying by this year! You can already see Savannah and Chris’s first family session at Belvedere Farm’s Pumpkin Patch right here. (Trust me: the cutest baby you’ve ever seen is wearing a Hobbit costume. You don’t want to miss it!)
