As a Virginia wedding photographer, I’ve compiled this detailed guide based on my years of experience to showcase over 50 of Virginia’s best (and most photogenic!) venues to help cut down the overwhelm so that you can spend more time celebrating your engagement and less time stressing.
Virginia is home to an incredibly diverse range of wedding venues. From the bright and sandy coastline to the dreamy sunsets over wine country, there is a venue here that will fit any Pinterest board! Your wedding venue will play a huge role in your wedding day experience and within your wedding photos, and a great venue can truly bring your wedding vision to life. Let’s dive on in to this comprehensive guide to Virginia’s best wedding venues!
First to make the list has to be Pippin Hill. An icon amongst the East Coast, Pippin is known for it’s top notch wedding experience with the best food, service, staff and views in Virginia. (They’ve won just about every award in the wedding world from best food in the south to Vogue’s dream wedding inspiration!) Pippin Hill is truly unforgettable from the moment you walk through their hydrangea lined pathway towards the Granary. Your guests will be raving as they sip artisanal cocktails and gaze out across the vineyard. I swear I’ve never seen a bad photo here! An absolute dream of a space in any season, Pippin Hill Winery ensures a stress-free and beautiful day so that you can focus on celebrating with your closest loved ones.
Near and dear to my heart is the Market at Grelen. An active nursery nestled into the Charlottesville wine country, Grelen is a european-inspired garden venue with an incredible staff. With beautiful villas nearby for the wedding parties to get ready together, three ceremony locations to choose from, and a reception tent with slate floors, they truly have thought of every way to take care of their couples. Whether you’re looking for an intimate gathering in the Half-Moon Garden, a showstopping view of the vineyards, or an industrial vibe inside of the greenhouse itself, the Market of Grelen is the perfect way to introduce your loved ones to the heart of Virginia. The grounds are a photographer’s dream, and I always love sneaking my couples out of the reception tent for a few minutes to snag a shot under the twinkle lights on the pergola
To see Grelen in action, you can check out Jessica + Jeremy’s wedding HERE.
If you’re feeling anxious about the weather, Stone Tower has the perfect answer for you! On a sunny day, your guests can watch you say “I do!” as the sun sets gently over Hogback Mountain and it’s vineyard covered valleys. In the rain (or if you’re on the lookout for a unique wedding venue idea!) Stone Tower offers their Tank Room lined in giant wine barrels as an option as well. All in all, Stone Tower offers multiple getting ready suites to choose from, four different ceremony sites across the venue, and one of the prettiest cocktail hour and reception spaces in the Northern Virginia/DC area. An incredible backdrop for photos, Stone Tower Winery weddings are always the perfect blend of your personality and Virginia’s best.
If you’ve ever daydreamed at your work computer of running barefoot through the gardens of a beautiful European mansion in a flowy gown, The Goodstone Inn was made for you. I don’t make the rules! I’m obsessed with the way the sun peeks through their ivy covered walls into the ceremony site, giving this venue the feeling that you’ve invited your guests into this hidden gem. This Northern Virginia wedding venue is just calling out for romantic wedding getaways to celebrate your love story far from the stress of the world, preferably with a champagne tower. 😉🥂 Drawing inspiration from elegant, European getaways – the Goodstone Inn would be an incredible match for the DC couple looking to create a memorable ‘staycation’ experience with their guests.
Keeping in line with Virginia’s best European-inspired wedding venues, Morais Vineyard showcases old world elegance at every turn. Featuring a stunning and spacious bridal cottage for pre-ceremony celebration, a separate suite for your partner on-site, the options for photos are practically unlimited. The vineyards themselves are a photographer’s dream, and I LOVE taking my couples and their wedding party to the unique greenhouse on the property. The venue owner also owns a classic car that can be used for photos! If you love to make an impression, definitely check out Morais! As they arrive, your guests are greeted in an elaborate Italian-inspired courtyard before taking a beautiful tree-lined path to your ceremony site. (Feeling a little introverted? Morais’ ballroom features a private balcony where the two of you can enjoy dinner alone without feeling completely cut off from your guests!)
When I tell you that Pharsalia has an INCREDIBLE view from every angle, I don’t mean it lightly! Pharsalia’s ceremony site is unmatched when it comes to views of the Blue Ridge Mountains, and even the cocktail hour space shows off an often-hidden look at the mountains. Tucked away into the foothills, this flower farm is the perfect marriage of elegant and welcoming for a big celebration with loved ones. Pharsalia has one of the best white sailboat tented reception spaces in Virginia, and between beautiful sunlight streaming down and all of the little gorgeous photo pockets in this hidden gem I literally never run out of beautiful photo locations. (As a garden-loving soul, this venue is one of my very favorites!)
Early Mountain Vineyards is an elegant wedding staple for Charlottesville, Virginia. Featuring a huge cozy fireplace that is absolutely to die for and amazing views of the mountains, this is the perfect wedding venue for a couple who wants to sip custom cocktails as they watch the sun set over the mountain range and then dance all night long. If you’re planning a destination-for-your-guests style wedding, Early Mountain Vineyard gives an incredible impression of Virginia’s natural beauty in any season!
I am obsessed with weddings at Raspberry Plain Manor! With a romantic secret garden filled with shaped hedges and a secret path, distant mountain views, and an incredible indoor space featuring huge windows that add a bohemian flair to your wedding day. My spring couples should definitely check this venue out: their indoor and outdoor ceremony options are equally beautiful and bright which can save you from stressing about inclement weather! Raspberry Plain Manor also has roomy and bright getting ready spaces for both brides and grooms – which is unique because men usually get stuck in dark ole basements!
This is another one of my all-time favorite Virginia wedding venues! Irvine Estate and House Mountain Inn are tag-team properties with a mountain lodge staycation feel to them. The Irvine Estate has an incredible getting ready space which is extra roomy for a whole wedding party squad to party. Seriously, you could sleep in the bathroom! There’s lots of room available for your loved ones to make a weekend of your wedding in cozy Lexington, Virginia. The mountain view from the ceremony terrace are a signature selling point of Irvine Estate, and the lodge itself has such beautiful light when the sun sinks into the mountains. If you are big on cocktail hour, the Irvine Estate’s covered patio and fireplace overlooking the Blue Ridge Mountains will be a bit hit with your guests!
The Quick Hotel completely lives up to its funky and cute name! Quirk has a completely unique style and personality as a venue, and is perfect for elopements! The vibes of the décor here are super reminiscent of Kate Spade—perfect for anyone who loves that pop of play and color, especially for getting ready photos! A true classic in the RVA, it is also the perfect home for editorial photos on the velvet sofas in the lobby, in front of the ivy wall in the iconic tiled courtyard, or on their rooftop with a killer view of Richmond skyline. The Quirk also has a showstopping ceremony space that still lets your personalities shine!
The King Family Vineyard is the perfect Virginia wedding venue for my couples looking to have a chic ceremony in the round! The views of the mountains from this vineyard are positively gorgeous which makes for a beautiful backdrop for those wedding party and family formal photos. The fireplace here is warm, cozy, and romantic: the perfect vibe for the beginning of your life with your loved one. If you’re a fall wedding fan, this is definitely the venue for you!
Mount Ida Farm is a unique, versatile, and multi-faceted location for your Virginia wedding. It has so many different venues within one! A Charlottesville staple, Mount Ida is known for their incredible and personable staff, tasty wine and unbelievably colorful sunsets. While the property views are killer at each of their ceremony and reception options, my personal favorite portrait location to sneak my couples off to is a grand stone staircase with its iron twinkle lanterns!
Oakridge Estate is a classic, bright, and elegant estate-style Virginia wedding venue located in Arrington, VA. The location is incredibly timeless with its marble fireplace and pillars yet still bringing an element of fresh fun. I love envisioning a lawn reception with sophisticated and romantic touches like draping greenery. This is a great venue for a couple that wants to look back on their photos and see elements that will never go out of style in order to showcase their personalities and guests.
Big Spring Farm is a nature lovers dream! Tie the know in Big Spring’s super romantic ceremony location under the whimsical willow trees and then take a short walk through the hydrangeas to a wide-open field with one of the most beautiful sunsets between the mountains in all of Lexington, Virginia. This gorgeous farm offers both incredible mountain views and a tucked away waterfront location that make the perfect recipe for your wedding photos.
Glass Hill Venue is the type of Virginia wedding venue that you have to see to believe! Picture this: whimsical greenery draped over the ceremony arch overlooking an unreal view of the Blue Ridge mountains with stunning lakeside landscaping nearby. Now double how beautiful you think it will be because Glass Hill checks all the boxes! The Lodge at Glass Hill features a beautiful stone fire place and slate patio for your guests, as well as designated prep suites for each partner. The venue is also partnered with A Little Party, which is one of my favorite wedding planner teams!
Calling all flower lovers! Lewis Ginter Botanical Gardens is the Virginia wedding venue for you. Totally perfect for the fresh blooms of a spring wedding with a uniquely shaped greenhouse that is in a class of its own. With lots of unique architectural pieces and splashes of colorful flowers, these gardens are the ideal wedding venue for someone who loves greenery as much as me!
Historic Tuckahoe is an incredible Virginia wedding venue! You’ll fall in love with a ceremony hidden in a grove of arched of trees, and Tuckahoe feels like the perfect place to dance the night away under string lights of the estate lawn with your new forever person. Plus, the lawns and manicured gardens are perfectly maintained and will delight your guests as they eat and chat under the stars during your beautiful reception!
Ooooo such a Virginia and DC wedding classic! The Great Marsh Estate is a rose colored historic home right outside of DC that is the epitome of classic romance. I have a soft spot for the greenery and texture available throughout this entire venue, but I often hear praise for the patio style balcony that looks straight out of the pages of Style Me Pretty. This venue would be so beautiful in the spring especially, with greenery climbing up the pillars of the porch for a unique ceremony site that gives a little extra protection in case of rain. No tent needed! If you want a long veil or a round ceremony arch, this is the wedding venue for you!
I’m totally obsessed with Waterperry Farm! It’s just outside of Charlottesville and completely surrounded by the Blue Ridge Mountains. Waterperry Farm has beautiful sweeping green fields and rustic details that make every inch of this European garden inspired estate picture-perfect. However, be aware before you fall in love with it! As a private property that doubles as a Virginia wedding venue, Waterperry is only available about to accommodate micro-weddings within the gorgeous greenhouse.
Shadow Creek is a Virginia wedding venue that gives off a rustic barn vibe without being a literal barn, which makes it perfect for laid back couples who just want to celebrate with their people. With an iconic ceremony view of rolling hills and beautiful side porch for cocktail hour, your guests will love this hidden gem! As an avid lover of hydrangeas, I had to mention that Shadow Creek has some beautiful ones that make for my favorite backdrop for wedding party photos!
Berryhill Resort is the perfect backdrop for a romantic, classic wedding. Say “I do” in front of the Greek inspired pillars of this rose-colored estate home, and celebrate your partnership with a champagne tower within the arched grand ballroom for your reception. If you want a DC look for your wedding reception without the pesky DC traffic, I think this hidden gem is the perfect spot for you. (Not to mention that a sparkler exit on the stairs in front of the pillars would be INSANE!)
Greenery abounds at Tranquility Farm! We love to see it. Tranquility Farm features lots of stonework and industrial-inspired elements without feeling like you’re dressed up for the night of your lives in a literal barn. Perfect for a wedding weekend experience, I can already picture my bold fashion loving couples going wild for this wedding venue – you’ll look like you stepped right out of the pages of Vogue with the ivy covered walls and courtyard gardens.
Keswick Vineyard is home to a gorgeous estate and immaculate grounds with -you guessed it – my favorite reception space: sail tenting. There are so many options here for your ceremony space and the sunlight is unmatched across the vineyards here. I might simply expire if you hired me to photograph you jumping into the pool at the end of the night—so playful and romantic!
If the Shire had a wedding venue, I think it would feel an awful lot like Sylvanside Farm. With covered porches on their cute cottage, big fluffy trees and beautiful sunsets, this is a Virginia wedding venue that will really deliver. Sylvanside can also provide a limited amount of space for guests to stay on site for one night, and offer animals (like horses!) for a photo opportunity with your partner!
Bluemont Vineyard is a gorgeous venue with both indoor and outdoor options, and let me tell you: the ceremony sites’ view of the fields make you feel like you can see for miles! My fall couples’ should definitely keep an eye on this venue as it is sure to showcase the color of Virginia’s countryside. When it comes to the wedding photo-related perks of using Bluemont Vineyard as your venue, the stone steps draped in fluffy hydrengeas are an absolute dream for couples’ photos and smaller wedding parties!

Plus, the manor house here will totally sweep you off your feet. If a timeless but easy, breezy, beautiful day is on your list then the Cliffton Inn should be too!

After you return to the docks, there are tons of reception venue options within walking distance for the reception, like Commune, which is next on this list!
Unique location alert!!! Commune is a artsy local coffee shop that specializes in locally sourced foods. Perfect for the conscious couple that also wants to represent Virginia! Commune boasts a skyline view from the rooftop of the shop, industrial chic windows, the king of hipster inspired bars with a cute neon sign and an exposed brick wall—all make for gorgeous portrait elements! Confession: I’m a bit biased because this was actually my own wedding venue (that’s me in the photo!) but I truly think that Commune is one of the best!
The Seclusion lives up to its name—exclusive and intimate with an unreal view of the Blue Ridge Mountains. With a luxurious barn, slate ceremony space, and a stunning fire place, every square inch of this venue is photogenic!
Tresca is a venue that absolutely gets it right! It offers one of my favorite getting ready spaces for moodier vibes thanks to a white-washed brick wall and floor-to-ceiling wooden bookshelves. If you aren’t a fan of guests needing to walk far between ceremony and reception spaces, you’ll love the flow of cocktail hour upstairs and reception downstairs. This location is ideal if you want to go for a live band during the reception, and it maintains an aesthetic of being both very elegant and slightly industrial with string lights to add that soft glam touch.
The Mill at Fine Creek is a breathtaking outdoor wedding venue that blows away couples who choose to get married here.
