Caroline and Michael’s Loch Raven Reservoir engagement session was my official welcome into being a Southern Maryland wedding photographer!
Loch Raven Reservoir was the perfect outdoorsy haven for a Baltimore engagement session with it’s incredibly colorful fall foliage and the romantic way that the sun sets over the water. Caroline, Michael and I found the cutest waterside path which was perfect for snuggling up for photos without a crowd – I always look for spots with a little privacy during the session so that it doesn’t feel like a performance!
There are countless landmarks, wineries, National Parks, and more around Baltimore and Washington DC that make for a Save-the-Date worthy engagement session. I always recommend choosing a spot that’s special to you and your partner. Over the years, I’ve been to dozens of locations with couples but nothing beats the comfort of having photos done in a place you consider one of your favorite date nights!
Early on in their relationship, Caroline and Michael used to spend hours walking the paths around Loch Raven Reservoir together. As soon as we started discussing dates and locations, Caroline knew that a cozy fall engagement session at their favorite spot was the perfect fit!
After choosing the location for your engagement session, it’s important to get the wheels turning on what you’ll wear! Picking your outfit color palette and planning your outfits is a key step in creating gorgeous photos. Knowing that Caroline and Michael wanted to emphasize that snuggley fall feeling, I suggested a warm color palette and minimal patterns to match that October inspiration.
On our short walk back towards the park entrance, Caroline and Michael told me how they were blown away by how fun the session was, and that they couldn’t wait to see their silliness and big joy reflected in the photos. I love breaking down the myth that having your photo taken feels uncomfortable and stiff – these aren’t your middle school yearbook photos after all!
As a Southern Maryland wedding photographer, it is so important to me that my clients know when their love is comfortable and fun, their photos should be too!
