Kathryn and Ryan held their farm rehearsal dinner in Maryland at Tusculum Farm. These two love spending time in the great outdoors, usually accompanied by their dog, Finley. They were so excited to spend the weekend with their family and friends on the farm, they chose to host both their rehearsal dinner and their wedding there.
I love photographing rehearsal dinners. It gives me the opportunity to meet my couple’s family and friends before the wedding day, and to see how their family and friends interact. Many couples choose to open the rehearsal dinner for toasts from family and friends, to keep things succinct during their wedding reception. It’s a laid back occasion filled with toasts and celebration, without the more strict timeline that often comes with wedding day.
Another benefit of photographing rehearsal dinners at the same location as the wedding is the ability to scout locations for wedding portraits. I loved being able to roam the farm with Kathryn and Ryan in preparation for the next day’s events. It was a breeze to already know exactly where we’d go during portrait time.
Hosting your farm rehearsal dinner in Maryland also gives your guests something to do on the day before the wedding, rather than the typical restaurant rehearsal dinner. Because Tusculum Farm was also a bed and breakfast, Kathryn and Ryan’s guests were able to hike, fish, and explore the farm the day of the rehearsal dinner. They also stayed in the bed and breakfast on the night before the wedding, making wedding morning a breeze without a commute.
There are so many beautiful locations in Maryland to host your wedding! I love being able to serve this area as a Maryland wedding photographer. To see my guide to Maryland wedding venues and view other locations in the area to host your event, click here.
